Administration

The following content is mainly historical; EGLIBC is no longer maintained or developed except for merges to the remaining active release branches.

Overview

Expand and enhance the capabilities of the GNU C Library (GLIBC) to support embedded systems for diverse environments, and maintain an open development environment encouraging broad, cooperative developer participation.

Free Software Goals

  • Support the goals of the GNU project, as defined by the FSF.
  • Library is available under the terms of the (L)GPL.
  • Copyright for the library to be held by the FSF.

Design Goals

  • Provide options to reduce on-disk and in-memory footprint.
  • Support cross-compilation and cross-validation.
  • Support processors used in embedded systems.
  • Incorporate support for processor-specific functionality where appropriate.
  • Retain API and ABI compatability with GLIBC wherever feasible.

Development Environment

  • All patches assigned to the FSF will be considered regardless of individual or company affiliation.
  • Encourage cooperation, communication, civility, and respect among developers.
